The winner doesn't pocket a prize. They direct a $5,000 sponsorship package to the organization they represent at the table — a local business, a nonprofit, a small team, a unit. Every hand played at this tournament is a hand played for someone or something that matters to the person playing it.

Questions
Everything you need to know.
What does the winner actually get?
+
The winning player directs a $5,000 sponsorship package to the organization they represent at the table — a local business, a nonprofit, a team, or a unit. There is no cash prize to the individual player. This structure keeps the event compliant with Virginia law without requiring a charitable gaming permit.
How does the 3-per-organization cap work?
+
Any single organization may send up to three players. This keeps the table mix diverse and prevents one company from dominating the field. If you're sending three players, the Org Table Combo ($500 for 3 entries + Table Sponsor recognition) is the smartest way to register.
Are re-buys allowed?
+
Yes — each player may buy back in one time during the first two hours of play. Re-buys are $100 each and handled at the venue, not online. After the two-hour window, the tournament is freezeout — bust and you're out.
Is there a dress code?
+
None. Come dressed however you're comfortable. Doors open at 4:00 PM for registration, food, and networking. Cards in the air at 5:00 PM sharp.
What if I've never played in a tournament before?
+
We'll have a brief rules walkthrough before play starts. If you know how to play Texas Hold'em at a kitchen table, you're ready. If you've never played at all, message us and we'll pair you with a friendly mentor for the night.
How is this not gambling?
+
Under Virginia § 18.2-325, gambling requires a prize of personal value to the winner. Because the winner directs the $5,000 sponsorship package to the organization they represent rather than receiving anything of personal value themselves, the event is not considered gambling and does not require a VDACS charitable gaming permit. Entry fees are characterized as tournament entries, not donations, for tax clarity.
The Guidon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Entry fees and sponsorships are characterized as tournament entries and event sponsorships, respectively — not charitable donations. Consult your tax advisor. This event is not gambling under Virginia law (§ 18.2-325) because the winning player receives no prize of personal value; the $5,000 sponsorship package is paid directly to the organization the winning player represents, whether a business, nonprofit, team, or unit.
